Late game heroics lift Albany to 9-6 win over Stallions

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - Six no-hit innings from Mitch Murrell (Ole Miss) and a late-game home run from Tom Kretzler (SUNY Brockport) lifted the Albany Dutchmen (19-20) to a 9-6 win over the Saugerties Stallions (24-11) at Cantine Field on Friday night.

Albany opened the scoring with four runs in the second to jump to a 4-0 lead. Nick Schwartz (St. Johns) led off the inning with a solo home run. Jack Peterson (Trinity) then to score Johnny Decker (Stony Brook) to increase the lead. Then, Ryan McGee (Siena) singles to score both Peterson and Ty Gallagher (Herkimer).

The Dutchmen tacked on two more in the fifth inning. Peterson led off with a double After Peterson was put out at home, McGee and Jake Defayette (RPI) scored to make it 6-0 Albany.

Murrell was pulled after six innings and was relieved by Jake Manderson (Georgetown College). Manderson lost the no hitter on the first batter he faced.

Noah Berghammer (Minnesota) lined a single to lead off the seventh inning. Kip Fougerouse (Indiana) then laced an RBI single to make the score 6-1 Albany in the seventh. With bases loaded, Jack Renwick hit an RBI double to make it 6-3 and chase Manderson from the game.

The Stallions entered the bottom of the eighth down 6-3. Max Morris (St. Thomas) and Josh Stevenson (LSU) reached base and Fougerouse blasted a long three-run home run to tie it up at six at the end of eight.

In the ninth, Tom Kretzler (SUNY Brockport) came off the bench and hit a three-run home run to put Albany up 9-6, which would be the final score.

Tristan Nemjo (Hofstra) earned the win for Albany and Kai Janowicz (UC Davis) suffered the loss. Murrell shined as he pitched six innings of no-hit ball. He also struck out seven and walked three. Andres Auffant (Franklin Pierce) started for the Stallions and went four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out two with no walks. Dylan Johnson (St. Johns) earned the save for the Dutchmen.

Albany takes on Mohawk Valley tomorrow night at 6:35 and the Stallions return to action tomorrow night at Amsterdam. First pitch is at 6:35 and you can stream it live on YouTube.
