July 7, 2018 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Geneva Red Wings News Release
The Geneva Red Wings split a day-night double header with the Albany Dutchmen on temperate McDonough Park Friday. Geneva would lose the first game, but would use a late walk-off homerun by outfielder Tanner Murray (UC Davis).
In game one, Albany would open up the scoring in the top of the third inning with three runs, quickly following up with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Geneva answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth as Austin Jackson (Mendocino CC), Jack Harris (San Francisco State), and Jared Gillis (Delaware St) would all score.
Red Wings starting pitcher Hayden Seig (St. Joseph's) would go fourth and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on six hits with one strikeout. The Wings would go on to allow six more runs and would not be able to recover, dropping game one of the double header by a score of 10-4.
In game two, Albany would strike first again in the top of the first inning when Cameron Masterman hit an RBI single to score Nick Estrella, giving the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead. Geneva would answer in the fourth inning when third baseman Jared Gillis score on an error, tying the game at 1. Geneva and Albany would remain scoreless going into the eighth inning.
The Wings pitching staff had a bounce back game two as they allowed a collective one run on six hits and nine total strikeouts. Reliever Joey Haas (U of Delaware) would strike out five Dutchmen batters in the sixth and seventh innings to earn himself the win.
Tanner Murray hit a two run walk off homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to salvage the split of the day/night double header and give one of the largest McDonough park crowds of the season something to cheer about on their way home.
With the split, the Red Wings move to (12-17) while the Dutchmen advance to (13-12). The Red Wings will be back home to McDonough Park on Monday July 9th for Lyons National Bank Night when they take on the Jamestown Jammers in double header action, first pitch of game one is at 4:05.
