November 6, 2024 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
No scoring.
2nd Period
KGN 1, OTT 0
4:39 Emil Pieniniemi (3) - Tyler Hopkins, Jacob Battaglia (PPG)
After a scoreless first period, the Frontenacs came out with a lot more energy and it translated onto the scoreboard. With a powerplay opportunity early in the second, Tyler Hopkins fed Emil Pieniniemi a pass and the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect fired a one-timer that blew by 67's Collin MacKenzie.
KGN 1, OTT 1
12:29 Luca Pinelli (13) - Nic Whitehead, Cooper Foster
Luca Pinelli wouldn't let his team trail for too long, as just under eight minutes after Pieniniemi opened the scoring, the Ottawa captain would draw his team even. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect snuck one through the five-hole of Nolan Lalonde as Lalonde got a piece of it, but it just trickled over the line to make it a 1-1 game.
3rd Period
KGN 1, OTT 2
4:05 Filip Ekberg (6) - Jack Dever, Luca Pinelli
The 67's would take the lead early in the third period with a man advantage. Top 2024 NHL Draft Prospect Filip Ekberg crashed the net hard and Jack Dever's cross crease pass landed perfectly on his stick, and Ekberg hammered home a one-timer to give the barber poles the lead.
KGN 1, OTT 3
10:29 Frankie Marrelli (1) - Jack Dever, Bradley Horner
In almost an identical play to their second goal, the 67's struck again midway through the third to double their lead. Jack Dever beat his man wide as he flew up the left wing and found defenseman Frankie Marrelli in the slot. Marrelli had jumped up in the play since Ottawa had numbers going the other way, and Marrelli fired home a one-timer that beat Lalonde clean.
KGN 2, OTT 3
17:09 Jacob Battaglia (12) - Ethan Miedema, Cedrick Guindon
With the Frontenacs searching for a tying goal in the dying minutes of the contest, Nolan Lalonde came to the bench for the extra attacker. With a 6-on-5 advantage, Cedrick Guindon threw a puck towards the Ottawa net. Ethan Miedema got a deflection on the way in, but it was Jacob Battaglia capitalizing on the yawning cage at the side of the net that would make it a one goal game.
KGN 2, OTT 4
19:21 Cooper Foster (9) - Luca Pinelli, Matthew Mayich
With Nolan Lalonde back on the bench for the extra attacker, the Frontenacs unfortunately wouldn't have the same outcome this time around. Cooper Foster won a board battle for a loose puck and would fire it down the length of the ice and into the empty net to seal the deal for the 67's.
