Late Comeback Attempt Falls Short, Stallions Lose 6-5 to Outlaws

July 10, 2022 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) - Saugerties Stallions News Release

ONEONTA, N.Y. - For the second straight game the Saugerties Stallions lost by a score of 6-5, this time to the Oneonta Outlaws on Saturday.

The Stallions jumped out to an early lead a few times during the game with the first time coming in the first inning as Easton Bertrand hit into a fielder's choice.

That lead wouldn't hold for long with the Outlaws capitalizing on an off night from starting pitcher Jake Kolkhorst.

Kolkhorst would end his day with 10 walks while allowing all six of the Outlaw runs.

All of those runs for Oneonta came in the first three innings as the Stallion bullpen held strong for the rest of the night with great performances from TJ Lopez and Mason Speaker.

Down 5-3 in the seventh inning, the Stallions tacked on a few more runs as Bertrand would get his final of three RBI's on the night with a triple and he would be brought in a batter later on a fielder's choice hit by Garrett Michel.

The Stallions would get two runners on in the eighth inning before going down swiftly in the ninth to end the game and give the Outlaws a close 6-5 victory.

On the season, the Stallions now hold a 16-15-1 record and are tied for third place in the East division with the Outlaws and the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.

Saturday's loss makes the Stallions 5-2 against the Outlaws this season and they hold a 2-2 record against the DiamondDawgs.

The Stallions will stay on the road on Sunday as they travel to Glens Falls for the first time this season to take on the Dragons.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
