Las Vegas Locomotives News Release
The Las Vegas Locos have qualified for a return to the United Football League Championship Game and head coach Jim Fassel and his 5-1 team take on the Sacramento Mountain Lions on Saturday at 8pm PDT (11pm EDT, Live on Versus).
On not relaxing because his team has clinches a Championship Game berth:
"We didn't want to get into a situation where we were in a tiebreaker. Right now, this team is very focused. We want to get better every week. We want to win our games, so we're not going to back off anything. We're going to play everybody.
"I think that the one thing you learn is, can you handle success? This team has handled it correctly, but I stay right on them, though.
On the goal of winning another title:
"We're still on the course for that, but to handle success is you come back to practice and get better, but they stay focused. It's not a very difficult job.
"It's got to be one of those things where you've got to inspire the guys to come back, come back and fight your way through. They're getting paid to win games. You've got to have that kind of effort every game.
On the quarterbacks in the UFL:
"I don't get a lot of study on the other teams' quarterbacks, because I'm mainly focused on the (opposing) defense, but I do see the other team perform. There has been some inconsistencies. There are a lot of good defenses in this league. I don't think I've even seen a whole league with as tight of games at the end. Usually, when you have that, you have good defenses. A lot of the quarterbacks make spectacular plays."
On opponent the Sacramento Mountain Lions:
"We really don't know what they're going to do, and Denny and I go back a long way. I've known Denny a long time, and he's a good football coach. I really don't know them better than I know another team. We've been fortunate in this league, the record we have. It (the league) is amazingly equal in talent."
On keeping sharp before title game:
"That burden falls on me, and I'm holding a tight line on everything. I'm going to jump down people's throats, and I'm going to demand the best."
On quarterback Drew Willy:
"He's played two games for us now. It's hard for a quarterback to sit there and not play at all, and then go in to a game. I have a lot of confidence in him. He's got all the parts there, so I just want to see him continue to develop. I like this young man, everything about him.
"He's handled things well. He doesn't get rattled in a game, and that's a great sign. He's very calm, cool, collected."
