Las Vegas Locomotives News Release
LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Locomotives (Locos) picked up the rights to six players formerly with the Hartford Colonials following the United Football League's (UFL) supplemental draft Monday, Aug. 15.
The draft was held after the UFL made the difficult decision to suspend operations in Hartford, and each of the UFL's four remaining teams (Las Vegas, Sacramento, Virginia and Omaha) made six selections.
"We had the opportunity to pick up some quality players with tremendous talent, and we look forward to seeing if they can contribute to the team during training camp," said Locomotives Head Coach Jim Fassel.
Five of the six players play on the defensive side of the ball, and the Locos hope they will contribute to the UFL's number one defense from 2010. As two-time defending UFL Champions, the Locos chose last among the four UFL teams. With their first selection and the fourth overall pick, the Locos drafted defensive back Gerard Lawson, a Las Vegas native who played his college ball at Oregon State University. Lawson is currently on the Reserved Rights List with the Locos holding the UFL rights to his contract.
With the eighth overall pick, the Locos selected Maurice Fountain, a defensive end out of Clemson. In the third round the Locos choose Danny Lansanah, a linebacker from Connecticut. The only offensive addition for the Locos came in the fourth round when they selected Tyson Devree, a tight end out of Colorado. With their fifth selection the Locos picked up safety Quintin Demps from Texas El Paso. In the final selection of the draft the Locos picked Simoni Lawrence, a linebacker from Minnesota.
Devree, Demps and Lawrence are also on the Reserved Rights Lists with the Locos holding the UFL rights to their contracts.
