Alexandria Aces News Release

Alexandria, LA; June 1, 2006 - Powered by a two-run home run from Anthony Bennett, the Laredo Broncos beat the Alexandria Aces 5-3 Thursday at Bringhurst Field, winning the final game of six consecutive between the two teams.

With one out in the sixth inning and the Broncos already ahead 1-0, Bennett ripped a 2-0 offering from Alexandria starter Lazaro Pineiro (0-1) over the right-field wall to give Laredo a 3-0 lead. Laredo had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Gabe Memmert. Pineiro was solid in his professional debut, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.

Alexandria continually threatened against Laredo starter Darryl Roque (2-2) but could not break through until the sixth. Shorstop Richard Paz, who was 3-for-4, led off with a double to deep center field, and Trey Beamon followed with another double. Adam Bonner later drove in Beamon with an infield single to make it a 3-2 game.

Laredo regained its three-run advantage in the top of the seventh inning against Aces lefty Jermaine Shack. A leadoff walk to Dalphi Correa set the tone for the inning. After a single by Jose Maldonado, Jose Salas lined a double down the left-field line. A slight bobble by Beamon allowed Maldonado to score all the way from first on the play, making it a 5-2 game.

In the ninth, Keto Anderson extended his hitting streak to 14 games and Paz added an RBI single, but Beamon popped up with the tying run at first to end the threat.

The Aces continue their six-game homestand this weekend against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. Friday night is Mid State Orthopaedic Replica Jersey Night, with Rio righty Danny Bonilla starting against Aces lefthander Brian Martin. The series continues Saturday and Sunday.
