Laredo Falls 2-1 To Corpus Christi, Bucks Franchise Record 11 Game Winning Streak Ends

Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 2-1 to the visiting Corpus Christi Rayz to end their franchise record 11 game winning streak. Rayz goalie Ron Vogel turned in a terrific performance to halt the Bucks run. Overall Laredo is a Southern Conference best 39-14-5 and they are tied for the CHL high with 83 points. The Bucks are on the road on Tuesday in Bossier-Shreveport. Laredo returns home on Friday against Austin. The first 2,000 fans get a Bucks megaphone courtesy of Laredo Community College. Also on Saturday Laredo hosts Memphis in the final home game of the 2006-07 regular season. The Bucks will wear St. Patrick's Day jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game. The Bucks out shot the Rayz 12-8 in the first period, but neither team scored.

In the second Laredo cracked thru as forward Steve Simoes hustled down the loose puck and centered to forward Donnie Margettie who snapped it home at 7:57. It was his 14th of the year. The Rayz tied the game when forward Justin Quenville tipped in a centering feed from forward Derrick McIver at 12:00. Corpus then took a 2-1 lead when forward Kevin Watters scored on a wraparound at 14:16.

In the third period the Bucks received five power play chances, including an extended two man advantage, but failed to capitalize. With 1:49 left the Bucks pulled their goalie, but the Rayz held on for the win. FINAL SCORE Corpus Christi 2, Laredo 1.

Vogel stopped 37 of 28 shots and got the win to improve to 21-11-4. Kevin Reiter allowed two goals on 20 shots in 58:11 of work and fell to 14-6-1. The Bucks went 0-7 on the power play, while Corpus Christi was 0-5. Laredo out shot the Rayz 38-20.
