Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE _ Ryan Langerhans broke out of a 1-for-24 slump with three hits Monday as the Greenville Braves opened a four-game series against the Huntsville Stars with a 6-3 Southern League victory at Municipal Stadium.
Langerhans, who also had an excellent running catch of a ninth-inning line drive, highlighted an 11-hit attack against the Stars (23-18). Bill McCarthy and James Jurries each had two hits for the G-Braves (20-23), who collected 13 hits in Sunday's 11-1 win over Jacksonville.
Pinch-hitter Jason Fitzgerald broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out single in the fifth that drove in McCarthy and Langerhans. A triple by McCarthy and a double by Langerhans made it 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth.
Greenville jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Adam LaRoche's ninth home run of the season. LaRoche shares the league lead with three other players.
Corey Hart's fifth home run of the season made it 2-1 in the second.
The series resumes Tuesday in a 7:15 p.m. game that matches right-hander Adam Wainwright (2-2) against Jacksonville's Mike Jones (5-1).
