Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks fell to the Lake Elsinore Storm, 4-3, before a crowd of 5,555 on Saturday night at The Diamond.
For the second straight night, the JetHawks had the tying run on base in the ninth with Erik Castro at the plate facing closer Kevin Quackenbush. And for the second straight night, the Storm came out on top.
Friday night Castro struck out to end the game. Saturday night he hit a hard groundball back up the middle that appeared to be on its way to center field for a base hit but short stop Chris Bisson dove to glove the ball, flipped to second for one out and Cory Spangenberg turned and threw to first in time to double up Castro.
Starter Mark Hardy picked up the win for the Storm to even his record at 2-2 and David Martinez got the loss for the JetHawks to fall to 0-1. Quackenbush recorded his fourth save.
Lancaster (5-11) took the lead in the fourth inning when Ben Orloff, who reached on a hit by pitch, scored on a Hardy wild pitch to make the score 1-0.
The Storm (8-8) responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Martinez, who had retired the first nine batters of the game, allowed a leadoff double to Rico Noel and a single to Spangenberg to start the inning. After a Luis Domoromo RBI-groundout, Connor Powers hit his first home run of the season to put Lake Elsinore up 3-1.
Martinez was immediately pulled from the game due to an injury to his throwing hand and was relieved by Alex Sogard. Sogard threw 4.1 innings without allowing an earned run. He did allow an unearned run in the fifth.
George Springer hit an RBI-triple in the sixth inning to make the score 4-2 and Telvin Nash hit an RBI-double in the eighth inning to make the score 4-3 but that's as close as Lancaster would get.
The final game of the four game series will be played Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Ruben Alaniz will start for the JetHawks against right-hander Matt Jackson.
The JetHawks return home Monday, April 23 to start a seven game home stand against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Stockton Ports.
