Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks built a big lead early on the strength of a six-run second inning, and held on late for a 10-7 victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday night at The Hangar.

Lancaster put up a run in the opening frame on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Muniz after back-to-back one-out singles from Johnny Sewald and Ramon Laureano.

In the second, the JetHawks took advantage of control issues by Visalia starter Cody Reed and knocked him out of the game. Bobby Boyd drew a bases loaded walk, while Laureano and Muniz each delivered two-run singles. The final run of the inning came home on a balk, the second of the inning by the Rawhide.

Reed (0-4) lasted just 1.1 innings and surrendered seven runs on six hits. The left-hander walked four and struck out one.

His ERA rose from 3.94 to 5.81.

With the JetHawks up 7-0, Visalia made its way back into the game by scoring seven of the next eight runs. Marty Herum hit a two-run homer in the fourth and also had an RBI double in a three-run sixth inning for the Rawhide. Dawel Lugo, who hit for the cycle on Tuesday night, came through with a two-run double.

Josh James (7-2) retired the first 10 hitters he faced and earned the win despite running into trouble late in his outing. The right-hander tossed six innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

Andrew Thome entered in the seventh and gave up a pair of runs in one-third of an inning before giving way to Jacob Dorris, who escaped a big jam and stranded the bases loaded. Dorris pitched the final 2.2 innings and struck out five while not allowing a run to earn his fourth save.

The JetHawks added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on RBI singles by Antonio Nunez and Johnny Sewald. Each had two hits in the game and Sewald extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The JetHawks and Rawhide conclude their four-game series on Thursday night at The Hangar. Trent Thornton (4-4) will start for Lancaster against Brad Keller (6-5). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
