Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Drew Naylor struck out a season- high 11 and the BlueClaws offense did the rest, powering Lakewood to an 11-1 victory over Lexington on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.
Naylor pitched eight innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits. It was his longest outing of the season and hi 11-strikouts were the most by any BlueClaws pitcher since Scott Mitchinson struck out 11 on Sept. 2, 2007.
Naylor struck out the side on two occasions.
Naylor (2-2) looked relaxed pitching with the lead in every inning except the top of the first. The BlueClaws scored five runs against Lexington starter Colt Adams in the bottom of the first, on their way to an 11-run, 16- hit afternoon.
Adams (1-3), who came into the game with a 7.15 ERA, lasted just two innings, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in that stretch. The first four hitters he faced all reached base, including Dominic Brown, who slugged a two-run home run out to deep right- centerfield.
Brown was one of six BlueClaws with multi-hit efforts. Every Lakewood starter had at least one hit and seven had at least one RBI.
The BlueClaws scored eight of their 11 runs in the first three innings, before adding three more in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Fernando Abad. Mike Koons was the only of the four Lexington pitchers in the game that did not allow a run.
After splitting the first two games of a four-game series, the two teams will meet again on Monday at 6:35 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park. The first 2,000 fans 18 and over will receive BlueClaws sombreros, courtesy United Teletech Financial.
Walter Tejeda (2-1) will make his first start of the season for the BlueClaws (14-16), while Anthony Bello (0-1) will get the start for the Legends (10-20).
