BURLINGTON, VT --- Aaron Arruda went 2-for-4 with a solo home and reliever Ivan Andueza went the final six innings to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 6-3 New York-Penn League victory over the Auburn Doubledays Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field.

The Lake Monsters trailed 1-0 and had just two hits over the first 4 1/3 innings before Arruda drilled a 412-foot solo home run over the down the leftfield line and over the outfielder bleachers to tie the game 1-1. Lana Akau followed with a single and scored on a Ryan Gridley RBI groundball double down the line at third to give Vermont the lead.

The Monsters added two more runs in the sixth on a Logan Farrar RBI double and Arruda RBI single before a Jack Meggs sacrifice fly in the seventh gave Vermont a 5-1 advantage.

Andueza had come on in relief of starter Brian Howard to start the fourth inning and faced a minimum 12 batters over the next four innings with two walks quickly erased by a pair of Vermont double plays. The Doubledays did scratch together four hits in the eighth off Andueza to score a couple of runs.

An Andres Martinez two-out RBI double to center and Oliver Ortiz RBI infield single cut the Auburn deficit to 5-3, but Andueza (4-1) got out of further trouble on a Jake Scudder groundout with runners on first and third. Akau gave Vermont an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out RBI single scoring Farrar.

Auburn had taken an early 1-0 lead on an Oliver Ortiz RBI single in the first inning off of Howard, who has allowed just the one run over eight innings combined in his first three starts for the Lake Monsters.

Akau and Farrar both had two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI for Vermont (17-9), while Jordan Devencenzi added a pair of hits and a run scored. Ortiz, Branden Boggetto and Joshual Ramirez each had two hits for Auburn (10-16), while starter Alex Troop (1-1) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings to take the loss.

The Stedler Division-leading Lake Monsters continue their six-game homestand on Monday as they host the Hudson Valley Renegades in the first of a three-game series starting at 7:05 pm. It is also the second of three scheduled 25-cent "Hot Dog Heavens" at Centennial this season.
