The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that the Club has transferred forward Brian Rodriguez to Club América of Mexico's Liga MX.
"Brian has been important contributor to our success since his arrival in 2019," said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington. "He is an exciting player who is capable of special things, which we witnessed many times. We wish him all the best in this opportunity with Club América."
Rodriguez, 22, joined LAFC as a Young Designated Player on Aug. 7, 2019 from Club Atlético Peñarol of Uruguay's Primera Division.
The Uruguayan international appeared in 55 regular season MLS matches for LAFC (46 starts), scoring eight goals and registering 12 assists in his MLS career. He helped LAFC capture the 2019 Supporter's Shield and played in two Playoff matches in 2019, recording one assist. He also played in four matches during LAFC's run to the finals of the 2020 Concacaf Champions League.
Rodriguez appeared in 15 games on loan to UD Almeria in Spain's LaLiga 2 from Feb. - July 2021.
He was named to the MLS 22 Under 22 lists in both 2019 and 2020 and led the Black & Gold with six assists during the 2020 season.
Before joining LAFC, Rodriguez spent two and a half seasons with Peñarol, notching three goals and nine assists in 26 games across all competitions.
Internationally, Rodriguez made his debut for Uruguay on Sept. 7, 2019. He has three goals and one assist in 17 total appearances and has appeared in 11 of Uruguay's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
