Richmond Raiders News Release
The Lady Raiders Dance & Cheer Team has announced 26 local ladies as finalists to join the 2012-2013 squad. Final audition activities include public performances and online voting from August 2-5. The Lady Raiders are the all-female promotion and entertainment group supporting the Richmond Raiders indoor professional football at the Richmond Coliseum. The 2012 Raiders football team finished second in the Professional Indoor Football League after competing in the Championship. The Raiders kick off their fourth season in Richmond in March 2013.
Featured in local magazines, radio, and television as well as receiving international attention by the Science Cheerleaders and Ultimatecheerleaders.com, the Lady Raiders represent the All-American woman who is a community leader and energetic performer. On July 22, the ladies learned a short dance and cheer routine during open call auditions. The panel of judges selected finalists based on physical fitness, personal appearance, dance and cheer performance, showmanship and communication skills. Finalists attend a series of rehearsals and a professional interview to provide insight on the candidates' professionalism, positive attitude, teamwork skills and dedication to community service.
"We are very pleased with the 26 ladies taking the stage during Lady Raiders audition finals," says director and choreographer Laura Eilers, who is also a 6-year NFL Cheerleader and 2011 Ms. United States. "They are amazing performers and beautiful women, we can't wait for the public to meet them!"
On Thursday, August 2 at 6:00pm, the finalists perform during pregame at the Richmond Flying Squirrels game. On Sunday, August 5 at 1:00pm, the ladies appear on the main stage at Cary Street and Colonial at the 29th Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival for an expected crowd of over 100,000 people. Judges will include Q94 radio personality Jackson Scott, Richmond Chief of Police Bryan Norwood, Owner of G.O.A.L. High Performance Sports Training Wendy Coles, and local plastic surgeon and official audition sponsor Dr. John W. Zinsser.
The final opportunity for ladies to earn points is through the "Zinsser Popularity Award" public vote, available at www.richmondraidersprofootball.com . Voting will launch on Thursday, August 2 at 6:00pm and close on Sunday, August 5 at 10:00pm.
The 2012-2013 Lady Raiders Dance & Cheer Team will be announced online on Monday, August 6. The new squad will make their first appearance on Wednesday, August 8 during Carytown Restaurant Week.
