Lady Eagles extend win streak to five

(Richmond, VA) The Charlotte Lady Eagles faced the Richmond Kickers Destiny tonight at Cary Street Field on the Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. Charlotte extended its win streak to five in the 2-1 victory over Richmond. The win brings the Lady Eagles just one point behind undefeated Atlantic Division leader Hampton Roads Piranhas.

The Lady Eagles got a first half lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Christy Timbers assisted by Carrie Kveton. It was Timbers' fourth goal of the season. Richmond turned up the pressure at the end of the first half, but were unable to score the equalizer before halftime.

The Kickers Destiny evened things up in the 14 minutes into the second half with a goal by Abby Robbins. The goal gave a boost to Richmond's tempo, and the Kickers Destiny continued on the attack. Veteran midfielder and former Nigerian National team player Nkiru Okosieme entered the game shortly after and provided some leadership and control in the midfield. Then in the 82nd minute Tina Murphy found a loose ball in Richmond's 18 yard box. Murphy laid the ball off to Okosieme who put it away for the game winner.

Goalkeeper Shannon O'Brien had an impressive game for Charlotte with seven saves. Charlotte outshot Richmond 18-14. The Lady Eagles extended their record to 7-1-1 for 22 points, creeping closer to the undefeated division leaders, the Hampton Roads Piranhas. Hampton Roads and Charlotte meet up on tomorrow night in what is sure to be a battle.

Charlotte Lady Eagles @ Hampton Roads Piranhas - Saturday, July 3, 2004 The Lady Eagles finish off their three game Virginia Road trip on Saturday night, facing the 2003 W-League National Champions, the Hampton Roads Piranhas. Hampton Roads comes into Saturday night's match being undefeated since the 2002 season. They are also the only team to beat the Lady Eagles this season. Hampton Roads defeated the Lady Eagles by a score of 2-0 back on June 5th. Following the July 3rd match, the Lady Eagles return home to host the Piranhas on July 9th at beautiful Waddell Stadium, 5:30pm in another doubleheader evening with the Eagles game following at 8:00pm

Tickets and Stadium information: The Eagles and Lady Eagles play all regular season home games at beautiful Waddell Stadium located on the campus of E.E.
