LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - After strengthening the roster with several key additions in recent weeks, the LA Galaxy will spend the upcoming week preparing for their next MLS fixture against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, August 15, at 5:30 p.m. PT (Apple TV).
LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo
The LA Galaxy hold a 14-15-14 all-time regular season record against the Houston Dynamo in 43 meetings, including a 7-10-5 mark at Shell Energy Stadium. Recent matchups between the clubs have been tightly contested, with the teams playing to three consecutive 1-1 draws. Prior to that stretch, the home side claimed a 2-1 victory in both meetings during the 2024 season. In 2025, Lucas Sanabria scored a stoppage-time equalizer in Houston in September, while Diego Fagúndez netted a second-half equalizer in Los Angeles in April despite the Galaxy playing shorthanded. Most recently, the clubs played to another 1-1 draw in Matchweek 15 of the 2026 season, with Joseph Paintsil giving the Galaxy a lead in the 28th minute before Houston leveled the match prior to halftime.
Investing in Roster Improvement
The LA Galaxy recently strengthened their roster with the signings of Hirving "Chucky" Lozano and Sergi Roberto, adding two accomplished veterans to a squad firmly in the hunt for a postseason berth. The additions come on the heels of the club's acquisitions of Robert Taylor and Kygo Furuhashi, further reinforcing the roster for the stretch run of the season. With the Galaxy sitting just three points outside the playoff positions, the influx of experience and quality provides a significant boost as the team pushes toward the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Galaxy Forward Ruben Ramos Jr. Helps USA U-20s Qualify for 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup
LA Galaxy forward Ruben Ramos Jr. played a key role in helping the United States qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship in Mexico. The 19-year-old Galaxy Academy product was one of the United States' top performers throughout the tournament, recording four goals and one assist in six appearances while helping the Americans advance to the Concacaf U-20 Championship Final and secure a berth in the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Ramos Jr. featured in every match and logged 498 of a possible 540 minutes, including every minute of the knockout stage. Fellow LA Galaxy Academy product Dylan Vanney, currently on loan with Spanish side Real Betis, also contributed to the U.S. campaign, making five appearances and scoring one goal during the tournament. The U.S. ultimately finished as runners-up in the competition, capping off a strong tournament run highlighted by World Cup qualification and another appearance in the Concacaf U-20 Championship Final.
Season Recap: LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team
The 2026 season marked another memorable campaign for the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team. The club's Unified Team captured its second consecutive California Special Olympics Tournament championship, finished the season with a 3-2-1 record, and capped the year with a late winner scored by Hannah Romero against FC Dallas on August 1. Earlier in the season, the team earned a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer on the road against Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The season also featured national recognition at the 2026 MLS Unified All-Star Match in Charlotte, where LA Galaxy representative Matthew Torres scored a brace for the Western Conference squad in a 3-2 loss to the East. Off the field, the Unified Team helped design the custom jersey numbers worn by the LA Galaxy first team on August 1. Inspired by the question, "What does the Unified Team mean to you?", the designs featured handprints and words such as "Family" and "United," reflecting the values at the heart of the program. Through its success on the field and impact in the community, the Unified Team continued to promote inclusion, teamwork and sportsmanship while creating meaningful experiences for athletes and supporters alike.
