LOS ANGELES - After taking the lead early in the first half, LA Galaxy II were reduced to 10 men and fell 2-1 on the road to Oakland Roots SC at Merritt College on Saturday afternoon.
LA Galaxy II Against Oakland Roots SC
Saturday's contest marked the third meeting between LA and Oakland in 2021, with Los Dos trailing the season series 1-2-0. In the first meeting between the two teams this year, Los Dos fell 3-2 to Oakland on May 23. In the second meeting in 2021, LA earned a 3-0 shutout win over Oakland on July 25. The Roots and Galaxy II will play once more this year, next squaring off on Sept. 18 in Oakland.
Goal-Scoring Plays
LA - Jorge Hernández, 12th minute: After Daniel Aguirre was fouled just outside the top-left edge of the penalty area, Jorge Hernández sent home a left-footed free kick to the bottom-right corner of the net for his seventh goal of the season.
OAK - Max Ornstil, 25th minute: After Los Dos were reduced to 10 men in the 22nd minute, Roots SC leveled from the ensuing set piece as a defensive header to the top of the penalty area was lashed back on the half-volley by Max Ornstil into the left corner of the net.
OAK - Yohannes Harish (Quincy Amarikwa), 26th minute: Amarikwa controlled a throw-in from the right inside the penalty area and then tiptoed along the byline before threading a low cross into the six-yard area that Yohannes Harish tapped home from close range.
Notes
Following the match, LA Galaxy II fell to 5-9-4 in 18 USL Championship regular-season matches played in 2021.
Saturday's contest marked the third meeting between LA and Oakland in 2021, with Los Dos trailing the season series 1-2-0.
Jorge Hernández tallied his seventh goal of the season, which ranks second on the team.
Daniel Aguirre led the team with two shots on target.
Josh Drack finished the match with a team-high five fouls won and four fouls conceded.
Jalen Neal made his first appearance for LA Galaxy II during the 2021 campaign, playing 34 minutes as a second-half substitute.
