LA Galaxy Forward Robbie Keane Voted MLS Player of the Month

September 5, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Thursday, September 5, 2013) - LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the month of August in the 2013 MLS season.

Robbie Keane continued his strong 2013 campaign in August with five goals and two assists in four league matches for the Galaxy, leading them to an unbeaten record of 3-0-1 during the month and a second place position in the Western Conference standings.

Keane broke out for a second half hat trick on August 17 as the LA Galaxy beat league leading, Real Salt Lake 4-2 at the StubHub Center. He completed his hat trick with an impressive chip over RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando. The impressive offensive showing earned Keane Player of the Week honors.

Two weeks later as the month came to a close, Keane was at it again. On August 31, Keane added two more goals and an assist to overpower the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 in the California Clásico. He garnered MLS Player of the Week honors again for this standout performance.

The LA Galaxy captain is currently tied for third in MLS with 10 assists and is fourth in the Budweiser Golden Boot race with 12 goals so far this season.

Keane and the Galaxy kick off the month of September when they host the Colorado Rapids at the StubHub Center on Saturday, September 7 (10:30 p.m. ET; MLS Live).

The MLS Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
