LA Galaxy Announce 2022 Team Awards

LOS ANGELES (Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022) - The LA Galaxy have announced the recipients of the club's 2022 team awards following the conclusion of the 2022 campaign. Forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernández was named the 2022 LA Galaxy Player of the Year and the Humanitarian of the Year, in addition to claiming Golden Boot honors. Additionally, goalkeeper Jonathan Bond was named the Defender of the Year.

For LA Galaxy II, forward Preston Judd was named the Player of the Year and claimed Golden Boot honors. Defender Jalen Neal was named Defender of the Year and was awarded the Los Dos Humanitarian of the Year.

In the Academy ranks, midfielder Brandon Tellez was named the LA Galaxy Academy Player of the Year.


LA Galaxy Player of the Year: Javier "Chicharito" Hernández - Forward

In his third season with the Galaxy, Javier "Chicharito" Hernández led the club and tied for fourth in MLS with 18 goals scored and added two assists in 32 games played (20 starts).Chicharito, who was named an MLS All-Star for the second consecutive season, tied for second in the league with 15 goals scored from open play.

LA Galaxy Defender of the Year: Jonathan Bond - Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond led the Galaxy with eight shutouts in 36 games played (36 starts) across all competitions in his second season in LA. Bond ended the 2022 campaign with the fourth-most appearances (65) in team history by a goalkeeper in MLS regular-season play.

LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year: Javier "Chicharito" Hernández - Forward

Javier "Chicharito" Hernández has been a leader in the Los Angeles community throughout 2022 on and off the field. Among his many contributions to the community, Chicharito spoke to LA Galaxy Academy players and members of the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team in a conversation during Mental Health Awareness Month about the importance of an athlete's mental health and how that translates into peak performance.

Golden Boot: Javier "Chicharito" Hernández - Forward

Chicharito led the LA Galaxy with 19 goals scored in 37 games played (34 starts) across all competitions this year. Dejan Joveljić finished second on the team with 15 goals scored in 37 appearances (10 starts) across all competitions in his second season with LA.


LA Galaxy II Player of the Year: Preston Judd - Forward

LA Galaxy II forward Preston Judd was named the Player of the Year for Los Dos during the 2022 campaign. Judd tallied 13 goals and four assists in 25 games played (22 starts) for Galaxy II this season. In 58 career games played (42 starts) with Galaxy II, Judd equaled a club record 30 goals scored and added six assists.

LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year: Jalen Neal - Defender

Jalen Neal, 19, who made a career high 21 appearances (20 starts) for Los Dos this season, was named the LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year. Neal led all defenders on Galaxy II with 1,166 successful passes (88.5% pass accuracy) and ranked third on the team in clearances (70) and fifth in interceptions (28). In 47 career games played (44 starts) across three seasons (2020-22) with Galaxy II, Neal has tallied one goal.

LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year: Jalen Neal - Defender

Neal was named the LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year for the third consecutive season. Neal won the City of Lakewood Chairman's Award for his service to the Lakewood community where he grew up. Additionally, Neal and his mother worked with the LA Galaxy Foundation to help bring at least one family per game to their first LA Galaxy game.

Golden Boot: Preston Judd - Forward

Judd led LA Galaxy II with 13 goals this season. Cameron Dunbar finished second on the team with 12 goals scored in 33 appearances (33 starts) during the 2022 campaign.


Academy Player of the Year: Brandon Tellez - Midfielder

LA Galaxy Academy product Brandon Tellez, 17, made his professional debut for LA Galaxy II this season, logging two appearances (2 starts) during the 2022 USL Championship Regular Season. Notably, Tellez was called up by the U-18 Mexican National Team for a training camp in August of this year.
