Academy Update: U15s, U17s Look to Rebound at de Anza

Sacramento Republic FC News Release
After a weekend of high-emotion derbies with their counterparts from San Jose Earthquakes, Sacramento's Academy squads turn their attention to a pair of league contests with regional opponents. Only the U15 and U17 squads see action this coming weekend, traveling to De Anza Force for another round of MLS NEXT Flex matches.
The Results
The club's lone win over San Jose this past Sunday came from the U13's, who jumped ahead of the Quakes in the Northwest Division standings following a 4-3 result. Through seven matches to start the season, Sacramento's youngest side is an unbeaten 7-0 and averaging less than one goal allowed per match. Even with the U14's defeat, they remain tied at the top with their Bay Area foes.
While the results didn't go their way against San Jose, neither the U15 or U17 squads are disappointed with how they played. The U15's came out firing from the opening whistle, with forward Chance Cowell finding net just six minutes into the match, but would settle for a draw after San Jose equalized at the hour mark. The U17's fell 3-1 - their first defeat to an MLS-affiliated club this season, but proved at San Jose's level throughout the afternoon.
What's Next
Looking ahead, more important matches await. This weekend, each side takes on De Anza Force looking to claim more important points in the standings. After playing well against one of the best clubs on their schedule, each side is set up to get a positive result. In 2021, Republic FC's youth squads bested De Anza all but twice in 13 contests across all age groups.
