L.A. Avengers to host luncheon featuring John Elway on May 17

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Avengers will host a "Meet the Team" luncheon on Friday, May 17, on their 50-yard field of play at STAPLES Center prior to the team's game later that evening against the Tampa Bay Storm.
In addition to greetings from Avenger owner Casey Wasserman and head coach Ed Hodgkiss, and the introduction of the 2002 Avenger team, the luncheon features a keynote address by John Elway, one of the most storied football players to ever come out of the Los Angeles area. Before winning two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos, Elway was a star quarterback at Granada Hills (Calif.) High School and Stanford University.
The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Healthsouth and Town Hall Los Angeles.
"This luncheon is going to be an annual event for us and we couldn't be any happier to start it all off with John Elway," Avenger president and chief operating officer Todd Merkow said. "And holding it directly on the field of play at STAPLES Center will make for a truly special environment. It promises to be an absolutely wonderful afternoon as the community gets an opportunity to get up close and personal with our team, in addition to hearing from one of the game's all-time greats in John Elway."
Individual seats to the luncheon cost $65. Tables of 10 are available for $650 or $750 (which includes an Avenger player or coach at the table). Interested parties should call (310) 407-0503.
Free parking for the luncheon will be available in Lot 3 (at the corner of Olympic Blvd. and Georgia St.) and attendees should enter STAPLES Center through the 11th Street entry.
The Avengers are currently in preparations to play their third consecutive road game on Saturday, May 11, against the San Jose SaberCats at the Compaq Center. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), and can also be heard on KMPC 1540-LA.
Avenger season tickets are still available and can be purchased over the telephone at 1-888- AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com. Single-game tickets, which start as low as $8, can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets and the STAPLES Center box office.
