L.A. Avengers qualify for 2007 AFL Playoffs

June 16, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- By virtue of the Kansas City Brigade's 66-63 victory over the Nashville Kats on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Avengers have qualified for the 2007 Arena Football League Playoffs, which will begin in two weeks.

The loss by Nashville (6-9) eliminates the Kats from postseason contention and means that Los Angeles (8-6) can finish no lower than sixth in the American Conference standings. Twelve of the AFL's 19 teams advance to the playoffs, six from each conference.

The Avengers, who have earned a playoff berth in five of their last six seasons, did not qualify a year ago after going 5-11.

L.A. has two regular-season games remaining and will now attempt to earn a first-round playoff game at home.

The Avengers will host the Las Vegas Gladiators (2-12) tomorrow (June 17) at STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (PT). If Los Angeles wins and the Chicago Rush (10-4) beat the Colorado Crush (8-6) on Monday night (7 p.m. [PT] on ESPN2), the Avengers will host a first-round playoff game at STAPLES Center on Monday, July 2.

Los Angeles, which will conclude the regular season on Saturday, June 23, at STAPLES Center versus the Utah Blaze (7-8), can earn the home playoff game on its own if it wins both of its remaining games.

Tickets for both Avenger games are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com and the STAPLES Center box office.
