Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- In a partnership bringing together children with cancer and their favorite athletes, the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League have named PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES), a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families, the team's Official 2006 Charitable Partner. To kick off the new partnership, the team has invited children with cancer to meet the 2006 Avengers and attend a "Kickoff Party" on Saturday (Jan. 14) at their training facility at West Los Angeles College in Culver City.

"As an avid sports fan, I am delighted the Los Angeles Avengers have chosen to support PADRES Contra El Cáncer," said Eva Longoria, national spokesperson for PADRES. "The sports and entertainment communities can offer so much to an organization like PADRES. With the help of partners like the Avengers, PADRES is able to continue to change the lives of so many children and their families whose lives have been affected by cancer."

The team will host "PADRES Contra El Cáncer Night" on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the Avengers take on the Utah Blaze at STAPLES Center. PADRES will also be the beneficiary of the Avengers' fourth annual "Meet the Team" Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 17, at STAPLES Center.

"PADRES has made a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of children with cancer and their families," said Avengers owner and CEO Casey Wasserman. "The Avengers are pleased to have PADRES as part of its team and hope this partnership will help bring awareness to the organization and its cause."

The Avengers will begin their seventh season in the 20-year-old AFL on Sunday, Jan. 29, when they host the Arizona Rattlers at STAPLES Center. Nine-game season ticket packages are on sale now.
