Louisville Lightning News Release

The Louisville Lightning held a press conference Monday, to announce the hiring of Kyt Selaidopoulos as their new head coach. Kyt played professional indoor and outdoor soccer for over 13 years prior to this appointment. Kyt's new position makes him the first full time head coach of a professional soccer team in Kentucky in nearly 25 years.

Kyt's proven leadership and success on the field was a primary factor in the Lightning's decision. Most recently as an indoor player, Selaidopoulos helped the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) win a national championship in March of 2011. He was named team captain during the Detroit ignition's Xtreme Soccer League run to the championship in 2008-2009. From 2005-2010, Kyt stayed within the top ten scoring leaders in the MISL.

As an outdoor player, Selaidopoulos was a member of the Canadian national futsal team and captain for the Canadian beach soccer team that qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Brazil and placed 2nd in the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Qualifier in Costa Rica. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, he began with the Montreal Impact in 1999, and helped them win a championship in 2004.

Kyt is a 14-year coaching veteran at various levels. Most recently, he coached the SC Waukesha Youth Soccer's U-13 A and B teams, and the Freshman Boys team at Waukesha West High School. He manages his own company in Montreal, serving as the President and Owner of KYT SOCCER since 2000. Each summer Kyt manages soccer camps for over 800 youth players.

According to Lightning General Manager, Nick Stover, Selaidopoulos' first mission is to build a team capable of winning a championship for its fans. "Today marks the most important step in a series of events that [the Lightning] have taken in acquiring the League trophy for our city. I believe we were extremely fortunate to find a man of this caliber."

Additionally, it is important to Kyt that the Louisville Lightning continues to develop strong ties to the youth and adult soccer players in the community. Having spent a great deal of time coaching youth programs, Kyt hopes to reach out to youth players among the many different clubs around Kentuckiana.

"We are going to build camps, school programs, and a brand here in Louisville," Selaidopoulos notes. "The winning product and best salesman in this business are those 18 guys who wear the jersey. Our team is only as strong as the people who support us. "

Coach Selaidopoulos will return to Montreal until August, when he permanently relocates to Louisville. The Lightning plan to host open tryouts in early September for its third season.
