
Kurt Rocco Leads VooDoo in Win over Georgia Force

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans VooDoo never trailed on Saturday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, defeating the Georgia Force, 57-35, to keep pace in the South Division.
The VooDoo (5-6) led 21-7 after the first quarter en route to a 34-14 halftime lead. The Force (6-5) made an attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the close the home team could come was 54-35 with 6:58 left in the contest.
"We did a lot of things well tonight and got a lot of strong play from our pass rush," said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. "I am proud of these guys for overcoming a lot of adversity, and playing hard from start to finish. We executed in all three phases."
VooDoo quarterback Kurt Rocco was impressive finishing 21-of-24 passing for 293 yards and 7 touchdowns. Rocco, who also rushed for a touchdown, was 18-of-19 passing through three quarters.
The VooDoo was led by wide receivers L.J. Castile and Josh Bush, each going over the 100-yard mark. Bush finished with 119 yards and 3 touchdowns while Castile checked out with 107 yards and 2 scores.
After the VooDoo scored on their first play from scrimmage via a Rocco to Quorey Payne 30-yard connection, and then the VooDoo defense followed with a Demarcus Robinson interception. Robinson finished the game with 5.0 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 pass breakup.
New Orleans followed the interception with points, making their lead 14-0 early on in the first quarter after Rocco found Bush 2 yards out.
"It was huge to get that early lead, and have our team giving 100 percent all 4 quarters," added O'Hara. "I was pleased to come out in the second half and keep the momentum."
The VooDoo forced three interceptions in the second half with two coming by way of jack linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson. Jackson finished with 5.0 tackles and 2 interceptions. Defensive back Jeremy Kellem paced the defense with 10.0 tackles.
New Orleans will host the red-hot San Antonio Talons (8-3) this Saturday night in The Graveyard. Tickets for the game can be purchased by calling 504-875-3900.
