Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
MILWAUKEE (June 3, 2012) - The Milwaukee Mustangs congratulate four former Mustangs players on being named to the Arena Football League's lists of the top 25 quarterbacks and wide receivers in league history.
Chris Greisen and Todd Hammel were ranked 14 and 17, respectively, in the AFL's recent countdown of top quarterbacks. Greisen led his 2010 Milwaukee squad to the National Conference Championship game, setting the league's single-season passing yardage record with 5,146 yards. He was selected All-Arena and league offensive player of the year in 2010, and his 126.7 career passer rating remains the best in AFL history.
Hammel quarterbacked the Mustangs from 1995-1999 and at one point was atop nearly every AFL career-passing category. He passed for 12,740 yards and 193 touchdowns during his four seasons with the team.
With only five spots remaining in the league's countdown of the top 25 wide receivers, the Mustangs have been represented by Gary Compton and Gary Mullen at numbers 18 and 23, respectively. Compton spent seven seasons with Milwaukee, starring at both wide receiver and linebacker. He earned two first-team all-arena selections and owns the franchise's single-game franchise records for both receiving yards (220) and touchdowns (6). His best season came in 2001, when he caught 101 passes for 1,484 yards and 33 touchdowns and was honored with the "Built Ford Tough" Man of the Year Award.
Mullen, named the 25th greatest player in AFL History in 2012, closed his historic career with the Mustangs in 1995, catching 21 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns that season. He holds the record for most career ArenaBowl receiving yards with 465 and was on the winning side of an ArenaBowl Championship four times.
