Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers head coach Lary Kuharich will be with his new team, the New York Dragons, when they take on the Orlando Predators in this week's regional AFL contest.
This will be the Dragons' second regionally televised game in 2003, and the second time a former Pioneer will play a prominent role for New York. Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton kicker Jimmy Kibble played in the Dragons opening-day loss to the Dallas Desperados.
"We are all extremely happy for Lary and wish him the best of luck," said Pioneers General Manager Rick Sneed. "The whole purpose of this league is to help people advance to higher level. Hopefully, he and the rest of the Dragons new coaching staff can turn their season around."
The Dragons relieved their entire coaching staff of its duties following last week's 46-45 loss to the Las Vegas Gladiators. New York is currently one of only three winless teams in the entire Arena Football League.
Kuharich will lend his expertise to new head coach Todd Shell, who became the second head coach in New York's team history on Tuesday. Shell posted a 29-25 record as head coach of the San Jose SaberCats from 1995-98.
