NEW YORK â Dallas Desperados quarterback JIM KUBIAK, Colorado Crush wide receiver/defensive back ADRIAN LUNSFORD and Chicago Rush wide receiver/linebacker LINDSAY FLESHMAN have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 5 of the 2003 season.
Kubiak (6-2, 218, Navy), in his third AFL season, completed 33 of 45 passes for 387 yards and seven touchdowns and only one interception, while adding two rushing touchdowns in the Desperados' 64-63 overtime victory against the Arizona Rattlers (2-3) on Sunday. His completion and yardage marks set single-game records for the Desperados (3-2). In 2003, the former AFL All-Rookie Team performer has 28 touchdowns and 1,536 yards, which places him No. 2 behind New York's AARON GARCIA (1,682). This marks the first time Kubiak has earned an AFL weekly honor.
Lunsford (5-10, 180, Iowa Wesleyan), who is in his 10th AFL season, led the expansion Colorado Crush by recording 3.0 total tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception that allowed the Crush to secure the franchise's first victory in Sunday's 38-35 win over the Indiana Firebirds. The former Tiger's interception and fumble recovery came on the Firebirds' (3-2) last two possessions to help secure Colorado's (1-4) first victory of the season. This marks the first time Lunsford has garnered an AFL weekly honor.
Fleshman (6-2, 195, James Madison), who is in his second AFL season, led the Rush (2-3) on both sides of the ball during their 40-13 victory over the Buffalo Destroyers on Saturday. Fleshman hauled in five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. He also recorded 3.5 total tackles and an interception to help lead a defense that held the Destroyers (3-2) to a season-low 13 points. This marks the first time that Fleshman has earned an AFL weekly honor.
