Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL – The Quad City Mallards have begun working on reclaiming the Colonial Cup Championship with the signing of rookie defenseman Adam Kragthorpe to a contract for the 2003-04 United Hockey League season. Mallards President/General Manager Howard Cornfield made the announcement today.

The 24-year-old Kragthorpe originally signed with the Mallards on Mar. 22 after being named first-team All-America by the American Hockey Coaches Association for the third consecutive season at University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He played two regular season games with Quad City before returning to school.

The Mallards selected Kragthorpe with the second overall choice in the first round of the UHL North American Amateur Draft in March. A team co-captain at Wisconsin-River Falls, the 6-foot, 205-pounder was named first-team All-Conference by the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association all four seasons of his college career. He was named 2000-01 NCHA co-player of the year, becoming the first defenseman ever to win the award.

Kragthorpe's cousin, forward Mike Farrell, has played for Mallards affiliates – the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals as well as the AHL's Portland Pirates – each of the last two seasons.

The 2003-04 season of Mallards hockey starts Oct. 24. Fans who purchase season tickets receive many benefits, including: All playoff tickets absolutely free; Custom-designed Legends Bobblehead Series featuring Sergei Zvyagin, Mark McFarlane, Jason Ulmer, and Coach Paul MacLean; Entry in a prize drawing including free Lasik surgery from Virdi Eye Clinic and two free airline tickets; Payment plans as low as $22.75 per month.
