Komets shutout Thunder, improve to 10-7-1-0

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets finished week eight of 2008-09 splitting the two games played to improve to 10-7-1-0 and 21 points. Fort Wayne holds fourth place in the tight IHL race, four points behind first-place Muskegon.

In review of last week, the Komets suffered their first setback of the season to the Generals 3-2 at Flint Friday. Saturday the Komets returned home to notch their first shoutout of the year 3-0 over the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder. It was the 170th shutout win, 98th at home, in Fort Wayne's 57-year history. Goaltender Tim Haun recorded the shutout in his first IHL start after being added to the Komets' roster last week. Veteran Guy Dupuis posted his third three-point night of the season assisting on all three goals scored to lead IHL defensemen with 19 assists and 23 points.

This week the Komets skate four games in five nights starting at Port Huron Tuesday at 7:30pm. The Icehawks begin the week in second place with 24 points in 21 games, three points ahead of the Komets who have skated 18 games so far this season. Port Huron is riding a three-game win streak. The Komets were the last team to beat Port Huron 5-3 in the last meeting Nov. 28 at Fort Wayne. The Komets lead the season series 2-1-0-0.

Thursday the Komets travel to Flint to face the Generals at 7pm. Flint is coming off two straight wins for their second two-game win string of the season. The Komets lead the season series 3-1-0-0. Thursday's game will be the fifth of 16 meetings this year.

Friday the Komets visit the league-leading Muskegon Lumberjacks. It's the second of seven trips to Muskegon. The Lumberjacks are the only IHL team with a winning record against Fort Wayne. The Komets are 0-3-0-0 in three previous meetings. The Komets lost 3-1 at home Dec. 29 to Muskegon in the last meeting. Muskegon split their two games played last week and are 3-2-0-0 in their last five, 5-3-1-0 in their last nine. The Lumberjacks are idle this week until the Komets visit Friday.

Saturday the Komets complete the week hosting Port Huron at 7:30pm. In addition to Tuesday night's Komet game at Port Huron, the Icehawks will host Bloomington Friday night before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.

Next week the Komets will host a home double-header weekend prior to the Christmas holiday. Saturday, Dec. 20 the Komets host Muskegon at 7:30pm and Sunday, Dec. 21 the Komets welcome the Kalamazoo Wings at 5pm for the first Sunday game of the season featuring a Wendy's after-game family skate. Sunday, Dec. 21 is also the first Komet's Season Ticket Exchange Night of the season.

Thomas trains to Fort Wayne.....the Komets welcomed skater Leo Thomas to the lineup last week prior to Friday and Saturday night's games. Thomas started the season with Bloomington before agreeing to terms with the Komets. The veteran forward posted points in each game played over the weekend. Thomas passed an assist Friday and scored the first goal and game winner Saturday against his former teammates in his Fort Wayne debut.

P.C. streaking.....veteran P.C. Drouin scored points in each game played last week to extend his point-scoring streak to five games (2 goals, 5 assists).

Special K's.....the Komets' penalty kill was a perfect 14/14 in the two games played last week. The Fort Wayne penalty kill ranks #1 in the IHL with an 87.0% efficiency rating. The Komets were 3/11 with the man advantage and continue to lead the IHL with a 22.5% power play rating.
