Generals String Together Back-to-Back Victories

December 8, 2008 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release


ROCHESTER, MI--- The Flint Generals broke their losing trend this past week, earning four out of six points at Perani Arena. The Generals strung together two straight wins for the first time since October 23rd and 24th when they won a home-and-home series versus Port Huron. Leading the way for Flint has been forwards John DiPace (13g, 17a) and Steve Rymsha (12g, 18a) both tied for the team lead in scoring with 30 points. Rymsha is currently on a league-tying highfour-game goal streak (5 goals) as well as a six-game point streak (11 points).

Bloomington right wing Don Parsons still remains four goals away from breaking Kevin Kerr's record to become the all-time leader in goals scored in professional minor league hockey. He also needs to play in 25 more games to reach 1,000 in his 17-year career. Parsons has been held scoreless in his last five games, giving him his longest scoring drought of the season.

Fort Wayne center Mathieu Curadeau remains on a call-up with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL). Curadeau has played in seven games with the Admirals, scoring two goals and recording nine penalty minutes. Curadeau was called up to the AHL on November 28th.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-3-0-0) - When Jacob Anderson scored his first professional goal midway through the second period at Flint, it snapped a four-period scoreless drought. Brent Clarke has scored 10 points in 17 games this season after scoring only 12 in 73 games as a rookie. The PrairieThunder is 3-1 when leading after the first period, but 4-11 when trailing after the first period. Don Parsons needs 25 games to reach the 1,000 career plateau. He also needs four points to reach the 1,300 mark in his career and four goals to become the all-time career goal scoring leader in professional minor league hockey.

Flint Generals - (2-1-0-0) - The Flint Generals are on their second two-game winning streak of the season. The first one occurred during the second weekend of the regular season. The Generals team defense has surrendered two goals or less in their last two games, and has given up just two power play goals in their last 16 chances including 0 for 11 in their last two games. Steve Rymsha has five goals and four assists for nine points in his last five games. Greg Bullock has six assists and is a plus four in those five games. The Generals have fired the first goals in the last two games and they have both produced victories. Six of the team's seven wins have occurred when they have led after 40 minutes of hockey. The Generals currently lead the IHL in penalty minutes with 569. They also lead the league in majors with a total of 31 handed out to the Generals.

Fort Wayne Komets - (1-1-0-0) - The Komets completed week eight of 2008-09 splitting the two games played to improve to 10-7-1-0 and 21 points. The Komets hold fourth place in the tight IHL race for the top, four points behind first-place Muskegon. Friday the Komets suffered their first setback of the season to the Generals 3-2 at Flint. Saturday the Komets notched their first shutout of the season 3-0 over the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder. It was the 170th Komet shutout win and 98th at home in Fort Wayne's 57-year history. Goalie Tim Haun recorded the shutout in his first IHL and Fort Wayne start. Veteran Guy Dupuis had his third three-point night of the season Saturday assisting on all three goals scored to lead IHL defensemen with 19 assists and 23 points. Special K's: The Komets' penalty kill was a perfect 14/14 in the two games played. The Fort Wayne penalty kill ranks #1 in the IHL with an 87.0% efficiency rating. The Komets were 3 for 11 with the man advantage and continue to lead the IHL with a 22.5% power play rating. Streaking: Winger P.C. Drouin scored points in each game played to extend his point-scoring streak to five games (2g, 5a).

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-1-0-0) - K-Wings went 3-2-0-0 during their five-game road trip. Kalamazoo will play their first home game in December and their first in 18 days this Friday, December 12th versus Flint. The K-Wings are on a four-game home winning streak and have won 9 of their last 11 games. Tyler Willis is three points shy of 700 in his career. Mark Nebus is two games shy of 100 in his career. The K-Wings ended a 0 for 20 power-play drought in the second period against Flint last Thursday. Currently in third place, the K-Wings are only three points out of first place. Jason Tapp leads all goaltenders in minutes played at 957:25 and saves with 459. Tapp's eight game winning streak was snapped on Saturday versus Muskegon. Rod Aldoff ranks second among all defensemen in assists with 13.

Muskegon Lumberjacks - (1-1-0-0) - With the IHL's best record at 12-5-1-0, the Lumberjacks have yet to sustain back-to-back losses this season. Through their first 18-games this season, the Lumberjacks have scored four or more goals in 15 of those games. Muskegon is the highest scoring machine in the IHL, having connected on 84 goals for in 18-games for an average of 4.67 goals a game. The Lumberjacks have scored the first goal of the game in 12 of their first 18 games, posting a 9-2-1-0 record when scoring first. Defenseman Darryl McArthur shares the league lead for best plus/minus rating at plus-15. Goaltender Isaac Reichmuth has accounted for 11 of the 'Jacks 12 wins so far this season. Since the initial incarnation of the Lumberjacks before they left Muskegon for Cleveland in 1992, Muskegon has won 690-games leaving it 10 victories from 700.

Port Huron Icehawks - (2-0-0-0) - Six of the nine goals the Icehawks scored last week came in the first period. The Icehawks have outscored their opponents by nearly double (37-16) in the opening period this season. They continue to lead the league in first period goals. The Icehawks special teams were perfect on Friday as they converted on two of two power play opportunities and killed off all four Muskegon penalties. The Icehawks are currently ranked second in the league on the power play overall, converting on 18.0% of man advantage situations (18-100). Several Icehawks are currently riding point streaks. Derek Merlini (2g, 3a) is on a five game point streak, Nick Lindberg (2g, 5a) is on a four game assist streak and point streak, and Jeff Zehr (1g, 2a) and Daniel Tetrault (1g, 4a) have both put up points in their last three games. After playing eight of their 12 games on the road in November, the Icehawks face a more balanced schedule in December with six home games and six road games. They play five of their last seven games this month on home ice.
