Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Fort Wayne defenseman Jason Binkley scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, as the Komets collected a 4-3 win over the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday. Each team collected goals via the power play, penalty kill and at even strength in the contest.

The Komets would open the scoring on the power play when forward Marc-Oliver Roy fielded a pass in the low slot and beat Eagles goalie Sam Brittain to put Fort Wayne on top 1-0 at the 5:02 mark of the first period.

With Colorado back on the penalty kill, Eagles forward Ryan Harrison would force a turnover and spring a 2-on-1, shorthanded rush that would be capped off with fellow forward Matt Garbowsky feeding the puck into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 7:38 remaining in the opening frame.

Fort Wayne would jump back on top midway through the second period when forward Shawn Szydlowski created a turnover on the penalty kill and raced down the ice, before firing a wrister into the back of the net to give the Komets the 2-1 edge at the 10:36 mark of the middle frame.

The scoring would open up in the third period, as the Eagles leveled the score with a power-play goal from between the circles off the tape of forward Michael Joly to tie the game at 2-2 just 2:05 into the final frame. The tally now extends Joly's goal-scoring streak to seven straight games, tying him with Ed McGrane for the second-longest such streak in team history. The 22 year-old now stands one shy of former Eagles forward Greg Pankewicz, who had a goal in eight straight contests during the 2006-07 season.

The stalemate would be quickly broken, as Fort Wayne forward Artur Tyanulin would stuff home a rebound in the crease to put the Komets back up 3-2 less than two minutes later.

The back-and-forth affair would continue when Eagles forward Shawn St-Amant snapped a puck from the left circle past Fort Wayne goalie Garrett Bartus to square the contest at 3-3 at the 7:30 mark of the third period.

Just minutes later, Binkley would snag a loose puck along the right wing boards and fire a shot past Brittain to give Fort Wayne the 4-3 advantage with 10:20 left in the contest.

Colorado would pull Brittain in favor of the extra attacker in the final minutes of regulation, but they would not be able to generate a game-tying goal.

Each team put 22 shots on net, as Colorado finished the night going 1-for-4 on the power play, while Fort Wayne registered one goal on three opportunities on the man-advantage.

The Eagles two-game homestand concludes when Colorado takes on the Rapid City Rush on Friday, November 10th at 7:05pm at the Budweiser Events Center.

Season tickets for the 2017-18 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $100 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
