Komets 60th Anniversary Season Opens Saturday; Veteran P.C. Drouin Released

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets will open their 60th anniversary season at home Saturday when they host the Evansville IceMen at 7:30pm at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the 60th anniversary celebration will begin promptly at 7:30pm Saturday. Throughout the year, many events, promotions and presentations are planned including recognition of former Komets along with special ceremonies, autograph sessions and photo opportunities at the new Meijer Autograph Zone at home games. Also during the 60th anniversary season, new members will be inducted into the Comcast Komet Hall of Fame. Many new endeavors both live and on the coliseum video board are also planned.

Season tickets for the 60th anniversary season continue on sale at the Komet office at 1010 Memorial Way. Single-game tickets for all Komet home games are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at TicketMaster . The Komets offer discounts on group tickets sold at the Komet office at 1010 Memorial Way. P.C. Drouin released -- The Komets also announced Thursday that they have released veteran skater P.C. Drouin. Drouin, 37, completed his 15th pro year last season skating 61 games with the Komets scoring 14 goals and 44 points during his sixth season as Komet. The St. Lambert, Quebec native led the Komets in 2007-08 with 51 assists and led in 2008-09 with 66 assists and 98 points in 75 Fort Wayne games. Drouin collected his third straight Fort Wayne championship leading the Komets in the 2010 playoffs with 13 assists and 18 points in 12 games.

Komets place two on injured reserve -- Defenseman Brandon Warner and David Starenky have been placed on injured reserve and will not be in the lineup Saturday night when the Komets open their 60th anniversary season against Evansville. Warner has been placed on 10-day I.R. and Starenky is on 14-day I.R.

The Komet roster of 21 players includes 12 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

KOMET HOCKEY NIGHT IN FORT WAYNE LIVE

Komets team with Xfinity for live telecasts of home games -- The Komets and Xfinity have partnered for five live home telecasts on Xfinity Channel 81 this season starting with the home opener Saturday. Fort Wayne broadcast veteran Kent Hormann will handle play-by-play assisted by Bob Gnau. In addition to Saturday's 60th anniversary home opener Xfinity will also feature live broadcasts of the traditional Fort Wayne New Year's Eve game, the annual Comcast Report Card Night Game Feb. 10, the season finale Mar. 25 and may include a Komet playoff game in April.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, along with Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP, present a new weekly televised sports program airing on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week throughout the 2011-12 season with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts during the half-hour program. The show will also feature highlights, interviews, call-ins and special segments. This Monday night, Oct. 24, Komet center Brett Smith and defenseman Jamie Milam will be special guests.

60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM will partner once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, will be heard online at Xfinity KometCast . Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.

Friday night Marathon Nights -- Continuing this year, Friday nights will be Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for any of the 11 Friday night home games. Fill Up Cards are available at all participating Marathon stations. The first Friday night Marathon Night is Nov. 4 when the Komets host the Rapid City Rush at 8pm.
