Kody Watts to Miss 2013 Summer Season

May 23, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Corvallis Knights News Release

Projected 2013 Corvallis Knights pitcher Kody Watts of the University of Portland won't play this summer season as a precautionary measure, general manager Bre Kerkvliet announced Thursday.

A sophomore right-hander from Vancouver, Wash., Watts was expected to be the starting pitcher in the team's June 5 West Coast League opener at Wenatchee in a rematch of the 2012 WCL Championship Series. Instead he'll rest his arm and work on strength training, at the suggestion of the Pilots' coaching staff.

Watts was 1-2, 4.59 in 16 games, with 21 strikeouts in 33.1 innings, and had excelled over the final 2/3 of the season after recovering from some arm problems.

Lenahan honored

Portland sophomore infielder Cody Lenahan, a 2013 Knight, was named an honorable mention West Coast League all-star. Lenahan went 1-for-3 in UPO's season finale on Monday to raise his average to an even .300 (57-190), with no homers and 18 RBIs.

Baseball America cites Knights alums

Three Knights alums are mentioned in Baseball America's list of the top 250 prospects for the June 4-6 Major League Baseball draft. Oregon reliever Jimmie Sherfy (2011) is No. 93, and Oregon State starters Matt Boyd (2010) is No. 176 and Ben Wetzler (2011) is No. 240.

Knights earn WCC academic honors

Future/alum Knights Kramer Scott (2011), Caleb Whalen (2012) and Cody Lenahan (2013) of the University of Portland were named to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic team. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a significant contributor to his team.

Scott, who has already graduated and is getting his MBA, has a 3.33 GPA in business administration. Whalen has a 3.29 GPA in business and Lenahan has a 3.21 GPA in business.

Lotti signs with Pecos league team

Former Knights all-WCL outfielder Logan Lotti (2008) has signed with the Alpine (Texas) Cowboys in the independent Pecos League. He was recently released by the Rockford Aviators of the independent Frontier League. Lotti played at Oregon State and at Western Oregon.
