Knoxville, TN. The ABA Knoxville Thunderbolts triumphed over defending conference champions, the Atlanta Vision on Sunday evening, 116-112. The Thunderbolts took an early lead ending the first period, 27-18, and maintained a 5-10 point lead throughout the game until the last period when the Vision came back hard.
The fourth period begain 81-70 and with 1:05 to go, the score was 109-104. At twenty seconds left in the game, the Thunderbolts held a slim 3-point lead. Braun Dabbs made a free throw and Atlanta scored again. Dabbs made another free throw with 2.9 seconds left on the clock for a final score of 116-112.
The leading scorer for the night was Thunderbolts newcomer, Gus Chase, with 28 points followed by Andrew Tipton with 25. Braun Dabbs and Brent Watts scored 15 and 14 points respectively. "This was an awesome game," said Doc Glisson, co-owner of the Thunderbolts. "They executed the plays well, and the crowd really came through when it got close toward the end. The crowd won this game as well as the players." There were 450 rapid fans in attendance. The Elizabeth Williams School of Dance students provided the half time show along with mascot "Mr. Thunderbolt" and the Lady Bolts.
