Corvallis Knights News Release
Corvallis, Ore. - An injury cut short Jake Leitgeb's first summer with the Corvallis Knights.
So the rising junior at the University of Washington is hoping for better things when he returns to the team in 2022. His signing was announced Saturday by Knights head coach Brooke Knight.
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound catcher from Lincoln High School in Portland, Leitgeb hit .258, with one RBI, in 10 West Coast League games for the 2021 Knights before being shut down with a knee injury following a July 4 contest at Ridgefield.
Leitgeb was a standout at Lincoln before joining his older brother, Brandon, on the Huskies. His senior season (2020) was canceled due to Covid-19 but he earned first-team PIL honors as a junior and second-team honors as a sophomore. He also quarterbacked the football team for three seasons.
A business major, he hopes to work in sports marketing for one of the major sportswear brands. A Seattle Mariners fan, his favorite player is former San Francisco catcher Buster Posey; his other favorites are Step Brothers (movie); The League (TV show), and the Harry Potter series (book).
The Knights begin the 2022 season on May 26 with their annual Science, Engineering & Art Day at Goss Stadium against the NW Star Academy Nighthawks. Their WCL opener is June 3 at Yakima Valley; their WCL home opener is June 17 vs. Yakima Valley.
