Corvallis Knights News Release

San Jose State catcher/outfielder Dane Lund will return to the Corvallis Knights for a third season, general manager Bre Kerkvliet announced Thursday.

Lund is a 5-foot-9, 175-pounder from Astoria who played at Mt. Hood Community College for two seasons before transferring to SJSU for the 2012-13 academic year.

He hit .261 (30-115) in 38 games for the Knights in 2012, with a homer and 13 RBIs. He hit .259 for Corvallis in 26 games in 2011, with no homers and six RBIs. He was a NWAACC all-star with Mt. Hood Community College in 2012, when he hit .311, with no homers and 20 RBIs.

Lund will join 2012 returnees Chris Bishop, Devon Barker, Jorge Perez, Chris Rabago and Marc Gallegos on the 2013 Knights. The signing of one more returnee will be announced in the very near future.

The Knights have also signed sophomore pitcher Jake Otness (pictured) of Pacific Lutheran University to a 10-day contract. He is a 6-foot-4, 170-pound righty from Gresham who played at Barlow High.

He was 3-3, 5.10 in 15 games at PLU as a freshman, with 29 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. He was a first-team Mt. Hood League all-star at Barlow and played in the 2011 Oregon All-Star Series at Goss Stadium.

His uncle, John Otness, starred at Washington and played for the Knights in 2001-02. He later signed with the Red Sox and had a seven-year minor-league career with four organizations before retiring after the 2010 season.
