Knights Sign Latta to 10-Day Contrazct; Kline Honored

The Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League signed redshirt freshman catcher Josh Latta of Tacoma Community College to a 10-day contract for the 2014 season on Thursday. Knights' pitching coach Connor Lambert is an assistant at TCC.

Latta is a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Auburn Riverside High in Auburn, Wash. He redshirted at University of Washington in 2013 and then played for the WCL's Kitsap franchise in the summer. He hit .170 (8-47) in 19 games for the BlueJackets, with no homers or RBIs.

Also, returnee Kevin Kline of Dixie State was named the PacWest Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday. He hit .400 (6-14) in four games against Saint Martin's, with two doubles, two home runs, five runs scored, 12 RBIs and a .933 slugging percentage.

He drove in five runs in the second game and six of Dixie State's 17 runs in the series finale. Kline was honorable mention all-WCL in 2013, when he hit .305 in 58 total games, with four homers and 37 RBIs.

The Knights open their 2014 season on June 4 with a nonleague game against the Portland Sea Dogs at Goss Stadium. Their WCL opener is June 6 at Bend; their WCL home opener is June 11 against the expansion Yakima Valley Pippins.
