Corvallis Knights News Release
Corvallis, Oregon, Wednesday, April 6, 2015 - The Corvallis Knights are pleased to be partnering with Kettle Chips to launch a new reading program.
Knights' staff members and team mascots Mack the Knight and Lil' King have begun visiting area schools to officially commence the program. Children are asked to log at least 60 minutes of reading per week until June 1. All children who complete the reading challenge will receive two free tickets to one of the team's three reading club games, compliments of Kettle Chips.
"When we set out to launch a reading program, we were determined to do something that would have a true impact on the community,"Â said Holly Jones, the Knights' senior vice president of operations. "We are excited to see our program genuinely motivating children to read."
There are currently 13 participating schools throughout Corvallis, Albany, Harrisburg, Philomath, Blodgett and Monroe.
"We are proud to be a part of a community-based initiative like this reading club,"Â said Joash Farlow, Regional Customer Manager for Kettle Chips. "We are committed to engaging with communities in a meaningful way, and we are ecstatic that the reading club is being so well received."
More than 3,700 area children are eligible to participate in the free program, and initial feedback from parents and teachers has been very positive.
"My son is in the fourth grade and has never been much of a reader. Ever since Mack and Lil' King came to his school to talk about the reading program, he cannot stop reading and talking about filling up his reading log,"Â said local mother Christine Hackenbruck.
