Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights announced today that 1420 AM in Omaha will serve as the flagship radio station for all game broadcasts during the 2005-2006 season.

"We're very happy to have yet another piece of the puzzle in place as we build toward our franchise opener on October 7th," said Doug Soetaert, the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' President. "1420 AM will allow our fans the opportunity to follow our team for all 80 games. We're looking forward to a productive partnership."

Longtime American Hockey League broadcaster Dave Ahlers will call all the action of the Knights' inaugural season. Ahlers comes to Omaha after nine years as the voice of the Portland (Maine) Pirates of the AHL. He was the 2003 winner of the AHL's James Ellery Award for contributions to the success of the league through the media in the radio category. Each game broadcast will begin 15 minutes before the opening face-off with the pre-game show featuring interviews with Knights' head coach Ryan McGill and assistant coach Scott Allen. Each broadcast will also feature player interviews and news from around the AHL.

In addition to the game broadcasts, 1420 AM will feature daily Knights' News features that will air during both the morning and afternoon each weekday. 1420 AM will also assist the Knights in promoting ticket sales and game promotions. In addition, the team will be offering the broadcasts via live streaming audio on its newly redesigned web site, omahaaksarbenknights.com. More details on those broadcasts will follow at a later date.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights begin their inaugural season in the American Hockey League on October 7th when they host the defending Western Conference Champions, the Chicago Wolves, at 7:00 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Season tickets, group tickets and mini-plans may be purchased by calling the Knights at (402) 344-4625. For more information, visit the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' web site at www.omahaaksarbenknights.com.

The 2005-2006 season marks the 70th anniversary of the American Hockey League. The AHL continues to serve as the top developmental league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 80 percent of NHL players in 2003-2004 were AHL graduates, and in 2004-2005, more than 7.1 million fans--an all-time league record--attended AHL games across North America.
