Knighthawks Will Battle the Arizona Sting In The 2007 National Lacrosse League Champion's Cup Finals

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Knighthawks will battle the Arizona Sting in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Champion's Cup Finals.

Arizona defeated the San Jose Stealth 9-7 Saturday night to advance to its second NLL Finals. Rochester and Arizona will meet for the second time this season. The last time they met, Rochester defeated Arizona 19-16 on February 24th at The Blue Cross Arena.

Rochester advanced to its sixth title game with a 14-13 overtime win Friday over the Buffalo Bandits in the East Division Finals. John Grant notched the game-winner just 26 seconds into the extra frame.

With seven points (5+2), Mike Accursi led the Knighthawks' charge tonight to earn game MVP honors. Scott Evans and Shawn Williams each had six-point performances, while Grant finished with four points (3+1). Goalie Pat O'Toole had another solid performance in net, stopping 43 of 56 shots, including 15 in the second quarter.

Rochester has now won its last 14 straight games and its last 10 at home this season. The Knighthawks finished the regular season with a 14-2 mark, which was the best record in the NLL. Rochester is attempting to win its first title since 1997.

The Sting are fighting to win their first league championship. Arizona advanced to the 2005 finals, but lost to the Toronto Rock. The Sting are led by former Knighthawks Curt and Derek Malawsky, and All-Pro and 2007 MVP candidate Dan Dawson. Arizona finished the 2007 regular season 9-7 and in second place in the West Division. They advanced to the finals with wins over Calgary and San Jose, limiting their opponents to just 16 goals.
