Knighthawks to Deliver 'Check' Saturday

April 4, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks will present a different kind of check on Saturday, April 6th at The Blue Cross Arena. During the game against the Philadelphia Wings, Knighthawks President Lewis Staats, in conjunction with Sutherland Global Services, will present the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester with a check for over $6,000.

"We are excited about the support shown by the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester for our organization through the 'Knighthawks Give Back' promotion," said Staats. "Through our foundation, we are pleased to be able to match the money they raised at our last home game."

The "Knighthawks Give Back" promotion allowed local charities to sell $10 Knighthawks tickets and keep half the money raised for their organizations. Other charities that participated in the fundraiser included the Hillside Family of Agencies, Muddy's Buddies, the Pancreatic Cancer Association of Western New York and Golisano Children's Hospital.

The "Knighthawks Give Back" promotion was a perfect fit for Sutherland Global Services, who works with both community partners. Sutherland and its employees combined to purchase 401 tickets for the Boys & Girls Club. With the most tickets sold to the Knighthawks' March 30th game, the Knighthawks Charitable Foundation, Inc. will match the $2,005 raised for the Boys & Girls Club. Sutherland also agreed to match the amount, bringing the total to $6,015.

"We have a partnership with both groups and have been involved with the Knighthawks for two seasons," said Sutherland Global Services Senior Expert of Employee Engagement Melody Warner. "The Boys & Girls Club is one of the three main charities we are supporting this year. Sutherland purchased tickets for the kids and our employees purchased tickets for the families on top of that."

As part of the partnership with the Knighthawks, their sales staff sold tickets on-site at several Sutherland locations. In the past, Knighthawks defenseman Tyler Burton visited employees at Sutherland Global Services' Wallace Way location.

"It has been a great partnership. We are involved with other sports teams and they are not as directly engaged with our employees like the Knighthawks," added Warner. "Our employees appreciate that and they love going to Knighthawks games."

Through the generosity of Sutherland Global Services, kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester were introduced to indoor professional lacrosse and the Knighthawks.

"We have a few kids who play lacrosse, but most have never seen a game," said Boys & Girls Club of Rochester Executive Director Dwayne Mahoney. "They loved the atmosphere, the music and the pace of the game. We are excited to go back."
