Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks used a dominating effort from goalie Matt Vinc to hold the Georgia Swarm to a season-low four goals tonight in an 11-4 victory. With their second straight win, the Knighthawks improved to 6-5 and moved into to a tie for second place in the East Division.
"It was a big win for us, especially on the road," said Knighthawks forward Joe Walters, who notched his first hat trick of the season. "It was important for us to build on last week. This was a big team win. Everybody played well."
Walters, who led the way with six points (3+3), opened the scoring at 1:20 of the first quarter and added single tallies in the third and fourth quarters. He also set up three straight goals to help Rochester erase an early 2-1 deficit. The eight-year pro set up Stephen Keogh at 11:25 of the first to tie the contest at two. In the second frame, Walters went to work and set-up back-to-back goals by Brad Self and Cody Jamieson to give the Knighthawks a 5-2 lead. The markers were part of a 6-0 run, which broke open the contest.
Keogh (2+1) and Self (2+1) both finished the game with three points apiece, while Cody Jamieson notched one goal and three assists. Dan Dawson also notched a pair of goals and added two assists, while Joe Resetarits chipped in one goal and two assists in a balanced offensive effort.
"It's always nice when you get contributions from everyone on offense," said Self, who scored his first two goals of the season. "We spread the ball and went at them in different ways. The offense played well, but 'Vno' (Matt Vinc) was awesome back there."
Vinc had a stellar night, as he recorded 15 saves in the second quarter and 21 in the fourth to finish with a career-high 53 saves. Behind Vinc and a tough defensive effort, Rochester held the Swarm scoreless for 32:13 and allowed a season-low four goals.
"The last couple of games we have had glimpses of the type of lacrosse we want to play," said Vinc. "Defensively, we did a great job not giving them a lot of resets. We really put them on the run. It makes my job a lot easier when we they don't have a lot of time and space."
Next week, Rochester will take on New England in Uncasville, Conn. on Friday, March 25th before hosting the Black Wolves the following night at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena.
