Knighthawks Sign Logan Kane
March 20, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Logan Kane's return to the Rochester Knighthawks became a reality this week, signing a one-year deal with the back-to-back National Lacrosse League champions.
"It feels good to sign with the Knighthawks," said Kane, who was with Rochester in 2009. "I am very excited."
The 27-year-old defenseman has since bolstered his lacrosse resume, playing the past two seasons in the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) for the Iroquois Ironmen and the Ohsweken Demons. In 18 games, Kane recorded 13 goals and 15 assists. In three playoffs games, he collected an impressive seven points with one goal and six assists. In the 2012 Creator's Cup Finals, he scored one goal and added two assists for the Iroquois Ironmen.
Internationally, Kane helped the Nationals defeat the United States Indoor Lacrosse Development Team 24-11 in the Fourth Annual Bowhunter Cup, which was played in October 2013. Kane, who was born in Kahnawake, was also named to the Iroquois roster for the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships. Playing for the Iroquois has allowed him to play with over a dozen of the National Lacrosse League's top players, including Knighthawks Cody Jamieson, Craig Point, Sid Smith, Wenster Green and Johnny Powless.
"He is a big guy who can get up and down the floor really well," said Knighthawks Assistant Coach Jason Johnson, who coached Kane at the junior and the international levels. "He has a big shot and a lot of potential."
Kane has excelled at the senior level, playing in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League. Over four seasons, he scored 48 goals and dished out 58 assists in just 40 games. In 2011, he scored five goals in eight games en route to a Presidents' Cup Championship with the St. Regis Braves. In 2009, he was honored as a First Team All-Star in the Presidents' Cup Tournament.
Kane played his college lacrosse at Onondaga Community College from 2007-08. As a midfielder, he recorded his best season for the Lazers, establishing career highs in goals (22), assists (12) and points (34) in 14 games as he helped guide the team to its fourth consecutive Region III championship in 2008. The Lazers were the No. 1 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament and reached the national semifinal game. Kane was named to the Honorable Mention All-Region team.
In 2008, the Knighthawks used their fifth-round pick (54th overall selection) to grab the hard-nosed transition player/defenseman. Kane played for the Junior "A" Six Nations Arrows for three seasons (2006-08) and was a member of the 2007 Minto Cup championship team, which included current Knighthawks Jamieson, Smith and Point.
"He did whatever the team needed him to do. I remember he scored a couple of big goals for us when we really needed them," said Jamieson. "He was one of our shutdown defenseman who we matched up size against size. He's a big, strong kid and a real versatile player."
Kane will join the team for practice next Wednesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, which is just a 10-minute drive from his house. That night, he will be reunited with some of his former Arrows teammates.
"I think it will be fun. The last time I played with those guys was in '07," said Kane. "It should be great playing with them again."
