
Knighthawks Secure Third Place as They Clip Wings

(Philadelphia, April 10)... The Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Philadelphia Wings 10-6 this afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena to secure third place in the East Division. The win is the Knighthawks' eighth of the season, which is their most wins since the 2008 campaign.
The Knighthawks were led by four-point efforts from Shawn Williams (2+2), Cody Jamieson (2+2) and Shawn Evans (1+3). Matt Vinc made 47 saves, including stopping Drew Westervelt on a penalty shot at 1:02 of the fourth quarter with the Knighthawks clinging to a two-goal lead.
Rochester broke the game open in the second with five straight goals in just over a seven-minute span to pull ahead 5-1. Williams and Jamieson each scored twice with Evans also adding a tally. Westervelt (3+0) netted the only goal of the first quarter, which gave Philly a 1-0 advantage. Max Seibald scored the second Wings' goal at the end of the second quarter.
Mike Accursi opened the third quarter with a goal just 37 seconds in to give the K-Hawks a 6-2 lead. Craig Point followed with a goal at 1:20 to make it 7-2. Philadelphia's Jeff Reynolds scored on a breakaway to cut the deficit to 7-3. Westervelt brought his team within two with two goals in three minutes.
In the fourth, Westervelt had a chance for his fourth of the game, but Vinc and the crossbar denied him on a penalty shot. Jordan Hall and Jarrett Davis then struck 1:13 apart for a 9-5 lead. Hall's goal was a rocket from the outside at 6:01, while Davis followed up on a shot and put the rebound past Kurtis Wagar at 7:14. Chris Driscoll added an empty netter and the Wings' Ryan Boyle scored a late marker to complete a four-point effort (1+3). Rochester completed a three-game sweep of the Wings with the win and improved to 23-15 lifetime against Philly.
Rochester travels to play the defending champion Washington Stealth on Saturday, April 16th at 10:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com.
