Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, February 28)... The Rochester Knighthawks' Annual Teddy Bear Auction exceeded the $2,000 mark Saturday night for CURE Childhood Cancer Association.
The top grossing bear was made by perennial All-Pro and former NLL MVP Casey Powell, whose Thin Mint Bear named Bear Hawk raised $250. Matt Vinc's panda and Tony Stewart's dog also eclipsed the $200 plateau. The Teddy Bear Auction, presented by GoBuyRochester.com, began online on February 16th and ended on February 23rd.
The 21 animals included moneys, bears, dogs and cats, and were created by the players at the Build-A-Bear Workshopé at Eastview Mall. This year, fans had a chance to bid on bears made by newcomers Dan and Paul Dawson, Powell, Joel McCready and Angus Goodleaf. Returning Knighthawks like Cody Jamieson, Cory Vitarelli, Mike Accursi, Vinc and Joe Walters also attracted some attention from diehard fans.
Founded in 1976, CURE is focused on meeting the emotional, social, financial, and educational needs of families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer and chronic blood disorders. CURE has been a proud sponsor of the Knighthawks since the 2002 season. The Knighthawks in turn have raised nearly $30,000 for CURE.
