(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks and CURE Childhood Cancer Association announced today that the Second Annual "Tip-A-Knighthawk" charity event raised $1,507.75 on March 6th at Bugaboo Creek Steak House. The total far exceed last year's total of $1,066.27.

The money earned will fund 500 hospital visits for kids with cancer and their families. The mission of CURE Childhood Cancer Association is to improve the lives of families coping with childhood cancer or chronic blood disorders by providing emotional, educational and financial assistance.

Rochester Knighthawks Chris Schiller, Pat Cougevan and Shawn Wilkins worked the event from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the restaurant on Jefferson Road in Henrietta. Knightingales dance team members Ada, Alanna, Dianna, Danielle and Wendy also signed autographs, and sold raffle tickets and calendars to raise funds for CURE. Meanwhile, Bugaboo's mascot, Moxie the Moose, and the Rochester Americans mascot, The Moose, were in attendance and entertained the younger Knighthawk fans.

The evening began with Cougevan and Wilkins collecting tips as celebrity bartenders, while Schiller and the Knightingales took on all challengers on a Nintendo Wii video game system. In all, 35 players battled Schiller and the dance team in bowling with the winners earning a pair of tickets to the Knighthawks' Saturday, March 22nd against the Chicago Shamrox.

Meanwhile, "Hawk Talk" with Gonzo and Knabber interviewed players and fans as part of their remote broadcast. The National Lacrosse League's only fan-produced Internet show aired from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. and is available on areyoukrew.net.

The festivities concluded with the auctioning off of prizes from local businesses and sports teams. The auction contained autographed items from the Amerks, Knighthawks, Rochester Rhinos, Rochester Rattlers, the National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse. Further, Susie's Irresistibles donated 10 percent of their proceeds from the sale of hand-made purses, jewelry and candles.

The event was the first of two fundraising initiatives this season between the Knighthawks and CURE Childhood Cancer Association. On Saturday, March 22nd, CURE will allow fans to bid on stuffed animals created by the Knighthawks at Build-A-Bear Workshop® in a silent auction at the Knighthawks-Chicago Shamrox game at The Blue Cross Arena. Build-A-Bear Workshop® will also donate a bear signed by the entire team to help with the charitable event. Last year the event raised nearly $4,500 for CURE.
