Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks host the Orlando Titans tonight at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena on "Irish Night." All the "Irish eyes" will be on Rochester goalie Pat O'Toole, who enters the game just 34 saves away from passing National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame netminder Dallas Eliuk as the all-time saves leader. Eliuk recorded 6,356 saves during his 18 seasons in the league. O'Toole, who is in his 16th season in the league, has 6,323 saves.
The game, sponsored by IKON Office Solutions, will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and thezone941.com. Fans can also catch all the action on the NLL.com. This is only the second meeting between the two teams and first in Rochester. The lone game was on January 29th and was won by the Titans, 13-8.
Rochester (5-4) enters the game in a three-way tie for second place in the East Division with Boston (5-4) and Toronto (6-5). The Knighthawks' two-game winning streak and three-game home winning streak was snapped in a 12-11 overtime loss to Edmonton on February 27th. The contest is the second of a season-high four-game homestand for Rochester, who owns a 3-1 record at home this season. Craig Point is second on the team with 20 goals, which is already one more than he registered last season. John Grant Jr. is eighth in the NLL with 51 points (21+3) in nine games. Shawn Williams needs one assist to become only the fifth player in NLL history to reach the 500 mark. He is also nine points away from 700 as a Knighthawk. Shawn Evans has started to heat up offensively with three goals and seven assists in his last two games. Rochester is second in the NLL with 26 power-play goals.
Orlando (5-3) moved into sole possession of first place in the East Division after earning an 11-9 victory over the Philadelphia Wings last night at Amway Arena. The Titans moved past the Toronto Rock, who suffered an 11-10 OT loss to the Buffalo Bandits. Jordan Hall led the way with a pair of goals to go along with three assists, and Ryan Boyle chipped in with five points. Goalie Matt Vinc made 43 stops to pass the 2,000 saves plateau in his career.
The Titans boast the toughest defense in the NLL, limiting opponents to a league-low 79 goals. They are led by goalie Matt Vinc, who is second in the league with a 9.37 goals-against average. Bill Greer leads all defensemen with 12 points (5+7) in seven games. If that wasn't enough, the Titans have the top power-play unit in the league converting 57.5 percent of their opportunities (23 of 40). Jordan Hall is the team's top point producer with 46 points (13+33), while Casey Powell is the top goal scorer with 22 this season. Forward Mike McLellan is two goals shy of 100 in his career.
In-Vinc-able: Vinc was named the NLL Player of the Month for February after posting a 2-1 record in three games and leading all starting goaltenders with an 8.62 goals-against average. He also collected a save percentage of.838 and stopped 145 out of 173 shots. He was the league's Defensive Player of the Week after a 52-save performance against Toronto on February 27th. Vinc also played all 76 minutes of the longest game in league history, a 12-11 loss to Boston in double overtime on February 20th.
Postgame Events: After the game, fans can head down to turf for a full-team autograph session. Fans can also meet their favorite players at Legends Bar and Grille in the Radisson for the official postgame party.
Next Game: Rochester hosts the Buffalo Bandits at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena on Saturday, March 27th. The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and thezone941.com. Fans can also catch all the action on the NLL.com.
