Knighthawks Launching Youth Box Lacrosse League

September 7, 2018 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks are pleased to announce Rochester's first-ever real box lacrosse league, powered by USBOXLA. The hybrid training/league, beginning in October, will teach players the fundamentals of box lacrosse and give them live game experience.

"The Knighthawks Youth Lacrosse League (YBLL) is going to be a big step toward growing the game of box in Rochester," said Knighthawks Academy Director and Knighthawks player Brad Gillies. "To compete with the best box teams in North America, we need to play more box. We can practice the box concepts all we want, but there is no better way to get better than actual games. This league will get the kids the reps they need."

This eight-week program will include two weeks of box training practices, and six weeks of games, with playoffs in the final two weeks. Each game will begin with box training skills prior to the start of the game. USBOXLA-certified referees will officiate the games. Teams will be coached by local experienced box lacrosse coaches as well as by current Knighthawks player Brad Gillies.

The league will run on Monday nights from Oct. 29 to Dec. 17 at Tri-County Sports Complex, which is located at 856 Walworth Penfield Rd. in Macedon, NY. The opportunity is available for players at the Pee Wee (5/6 grade), Bantam (7/8 grade) and High School (9-12 grade) levels. There are only 60 spots in each age group, so don't miss out on this opportunity.

As a member of the Knighthawks Box Lacrosse League, you will receive a 2018-19 Knighthawks season ticket ($99 value), a Jr. Knighthawks Team Jersey, and a 2019 Jr. Knighthawks Winter Tryout Fee Waiver. Further benefits include Team MVP prizes, Championship Team T-shirts and an end of the year pizza party for all teams. Weekly results will be posted on a league website, along with stats, standings and player profiles.

Box lacrosse is widely known as one of the most beneficial training methods to improve your field lacrosse game. Some of the benefits include enhancing decision making and sharpening stick skills. The physicality of the game also teaches you to play with pressure and improve your ground ball skills.
